ALERT - December 4, 2006: Protect Our Woods joins allies to submit a response to the Draft Supplement to the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the German Ridge Restoration Project in Hoosier National Forest1. The Public Wants No LoggingIt has been shown time and time again that the public in Indiana and surrounding areas clearly values standing forests and all of the amenities these forests provide. The public has also made it clear that logging and other extractive practices on the Hoosier compromise these values. In 1998, Cooper and Secrest Associates conducted surveys quantifying the public’s preferences for national forest management. In Indiana, 69 percent of all those polled were opposed to logging on the Hoosier National Forest. This is a nationwide trend. The Forest Service needs to act in accordance with the wishes of the public for whom they are managing the forests and withdraw this project. Therefore, we request that this project be withdrawn from further review or implementation.Click here for part 2. The Pines Are Getting Old - Timber Industry FocusProtect Our Woods
